“We have two ears and one mouth so we can listen twice as much as we talk”Coachfusious
Listening is more than just hearing until the other person has stopped talking so we can share our thoughts with them. That’s right, did you know that we listen at 125-250 words per minute, but think at 1000-3000 words per minute. So how many times are we listening to our own thought, while listening to someone else ? How many time do we have opinions or judgment spinning in our head while the other one is talking ?
How great it is when we are able to really listen ? Listen to the words spoken but also to the unspoken ones. When I listen to someone, I try to hear what this person is really sharing with me. What emotions and needs are being expressed behind the conversations or the story. It is an amazing way to create deep connections.
I can share with that person what I am hearing and all of a sudden we are reaching another level of connection. It’s magical, I love it !
Try it this week. Choose one conversation and try to empty your head and listen with your whole being. With your ears, with your eyes, with your Heart… Listen to the words used, listen to body language and the tone of voice. Listen to what is behind the story, behind the facts.
Share what your hear. And don’t worry if you are not on target the other person will let you know and the conversation will go deeper from that point.
I invit you to do it and if you feel inspired to come back and post your feedback on the experience.
