What drew me to coaching ?

//What drew me to coaching ?

Even thought coaching came to me as a big surprise, when I look at it right now, I can see the path and I know that this is what I am meant to do. I feel so Alive.

When I was a teenager I started to think about what career I wanted to have..

I knew that I wanted to work with people. I almost went to a psychotherapy school but I was not energised by the medical side of it and the idea of dealing with past “problems”. I wanted something concrete with lots of action so I decided to go for Human Resources. After getting a Master in HR combined with a BS in Sociology, I started my career in HR in France and was successfully going up the corporate ladder, until I decided to move to the US with my husband in June 2000. For the first 2 years, I had no working visa. I was lucky to have the time to blossom as a new mother.

After a while my creative energy was pushing to find my new path. I wanted to go back to work but something in the HR field was not right for me. I Loved the management and the legal part of the position but I didn’t like all the administrative tasks. I was also resisting going back to the corporate world with my new reality ( 2 kids at that time and planning for more..). With a working visa, I followed different ideas. I started a business resaling gently used french labeled clothing for kids, then I wanted to distribute a line of bags for kids. Until the day when I realized that no matter how great was the product, I didn’t care. All I really wanted was to work with people. I stayed in that space for a few month. Waiting, wondering, asking what I should do ? I was very open to get an answer from the Univers.

I had no idea about the coaching profession. I had never heard of it except for fitness coaching.

Until one summer on vacation in the South of France with my brother and his wife. She had a job interview for an amazing position the following week. The Dream position for her. With my HR background I helped her getting ready for the interview. I helped her trusting her qualities and talents and we worked on how to present those in a 20mn interview. We did a lot of exercices and role play.
She got the job and was thrilled !!!! She could’nt thank me enough. She felt that she couldn’t have done it without me.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. In the living room while we were drinking a glass of champagne to celebrate her new job. She hugged me and thanked me and said ” you should be a life coach”.Even-though I had never heard of that profession, I knew right away that it was the perfect job for me. It sounded so right: ” Life coach”.

My whole body was shivering.

Then everything went really fast. I met a very experienced coach at my daughter’s school and did a 12 weeks training with her and then hired her to become my mentor/Coach.

My sister in Law hired me to coach her in her new challenging position and my mentor helped me get 3 paying clients. The next summer I found ICA on the web and decided to get certified.

I am now a the mother of 3 girls ( 6, 4 and 3 months), planning on becoming certified by the end of this year. I am building my practice and blossoming in the field !
